TU Wien is located in Vienna, in the heart of Europe, in a cosmopolitan city of great cultural diversity. For 200 years now, TU Wien has been a place of research, teaching and learning in the service of progress. TU Wien is among the most successful technical universities in Europe and is Austria’s largest scientific-technical research and educational institution.

The mission of the TU Wien is “technology for people”. The University has eightfaculties and is led by the Rector and four Vice Rectors. The TU Wien places great emphasis on the inclusion of students in research programmes, considering this an important criterion encouraging new generations of scientists. Development work in almost all areas of technology is encouraged, first, by the interaction between basic research and thedifferent fields of engineering sciences at the TU Wien itself, and, secondly, within the framework of cooperative projects with other universities, research institutes and business sector partners. The TU Wien has sharpened its research profile <http://www.tuwien.ac.at/en/research/> by defining competence fields and setting up interdisciplinary collaboration centres.
